Another Busy Week!

First, congratulations to all the athletes that competed in our home meet yesterday, especially those of you who completed your first cross country race.

Second, if you have not reviewed the team contract, be sure to do so.  It's on the 'Team Contract' tab.

Attendance (Part of the Contract)
  1. Returning athletes are required to attend their 1st day of practice by August 16th, and must have 10 practices by August 29th or they will not be allowed on the team.
  2. Freshman and athletes new to Service High are allowed to join as late as August 23rd, the 3rd day of school, and must have 10 practices by September 5th, or they will not be allowed on the team.
  3. If a student-athlete misses so many practices that it will be mathematically impossible to meet the 70% minimum requirement by the end of the season, they may be asked to leave the team per the head coach's discretion.  We did not follow this rule during Covid as we were more concerned with giving the student-athletes a safe space to connect with one another during a difficult period.  But we are back to limiting participation to only those athletes that are willing to make participation in team practices and races a priority.

Third, this week's schedule,

Monday 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM Mud Run and Mud Core: meet at the Kincaid Chalet  Athletes should bring a penchant for getting muddy and a raincoat if conditions dictate.  Parents that don't want a muddy car are advised to bring old towels or blankets when retrieving their student-athletes.

Tuesday 5:30 - 7:00 PM Service Little Gym

Wednesday 5:30 - 7:00 PM Service Little Gym: Captains will be determined

Thursday 1st Day of School, Practice switches to 2:30 - 4 PM: Service Little Gym

Friday Soldotna Overnight Trip 4:30 PM by the Service Little Gym.  We will return on Saturday at approximately 7:30 PM:  After smoke cancellation in 2019 and 2 yrs of Covid cancellation, the Soldotna overnight trip is back on!  We will load onto the buses at 4:30pm and arrive at Soldotna High at around 8pm where we will have pizza and fun.  Boys will sleep in the lower gym and girls in the upper gym with their chaperones.  Bring a sleeping mat, sleeping bag, running and racing gear, and all other overnight essentials  (Toothbrush?!).  Athletes will have a cold breakfast at 8:30am, bus over to Skyview Middle School for the races, and bus back to Service with an estimated arrival time at the little gym of 7:30pm.

All student-athletes and their parents are required to sign the overnight contract and turn it in to one of the coaches by Thursday, end of practice.  As with all non-home meets, students are only allowed to leave the meet with a parent or legal guardian.  Friend's parents are not allowed to drive you home per ASD rules.

Please consider the Volunteering Opportunities Below:

Kincaid Mud run on Monday, the 15th, annual tradition
volunteers who have offered to bring cookies and/or chocolate milk can arrive at the Kincaid Chalet at 6:30pm and set up at the picnic tables outside of the Chalet.
volunteers that want to take pictures of the muddy student athletes will have to walk down the coastal trail (to the mud) and arrive at 5:30pm

Soldotna Overnight Trip on Friday, the 19th, annual tradition. The team busses down to Skyview Middle/High School, spends the night in the school, and races the Tsalteshi Invite Saturday morning.
could still use volunteers to help with dinner around 8pm on Friday evening  (we usually order pizza unless someone wants to grill for about 50 people)
volunteers to help and supply breakfast will need to arrive at Soldotna High School by 8:30am(muffins and bananas, breakfast bars, we're flexible!)

Tent to/from Meet  We are still looking for a volunteer (or volunteers) to bring/take the team tent to future meets.  You need a large vehicle.  Student athletes will muscle it out of and into your vehicle and transport it with the dolly to the team site at the meet you've offered to help out with.

Spaghetti Feeds.  For the 1st time ever, we still have availability to host a spaghetti feed.  A shopper, (thanks Mr. Kirkland) will deliver you the food and we'll deliver you the student-athletes.  They are a respectful bunch and we haven't had any problems in the past.

Let us know how you are willing to help out.  We are still looking for a parent to shadow Gess Lim, who manages the booster club finances, and Laarni Power, who manages the team's FaceBook page.  Many hands make light work.  Go to the 'Parents' tab on the ServiceCCRunning.com website and sign up for what you're willing to do.  Thanks much!
